Yay for two rants in one week!

I am a plus sized woman. I am not necessarily pleased with this, but I am not the kind to hide myself behind baggy clothes or stop going out. I am still an attractive woman, and I would rather be my size, than the skeletal size of most of todays's starlets.

I love seeing 'plus sized model' articles. I think its so important to highlight the beauty of every size, and its wonderful when I see a feature of the best. I won't say people my size are always healthy, or unhealthy. But we're raising a generation of women who are terrified to find themselves in the plus sized section, who cover themselves, and lose their spark the moment it happens.

That said, I read an article tonight, "The Hottest Women in the World, Plus Sized Edition". And it just about blew my damn mind. I am not above admitting I have a list of girl crushes almost as long as my guys. At the very top of that list? Christina Hendricks. That woman is beauty personified. The only thing more beautiful than her skin and eyes...is her body. She is HEALTHY. She's got a gorgeous face, that leads on to an unbelievable bust, and amazing hips. If I could steal one body in Hollywood, it'd be hers. But she is NOT plus sized. And yet she topped this so-called 'Plus Sized List'. And as I went down the list, I realized something. I have been looking at these models, and admiring them...but in most cases, they're only healthy. Seeing a woman in a pair of jeans, with some actual heft to herself...seeing her with an actual hip to jut to one side, or an actual ass....does not actually make a woman overweight, or plus sized.

We sit around and drool over Marylin Monroe. She fluctuated, like every other woman on earth, but she spent time as a size 12. And no one sat around calling her a cow. Because that was healthy. Its insane the standards we're placing on women today, while still loving the curvy, healthy women of yesteryear.

Moving on! Here is the article in question: CRAAAZY

I will admit, a couple girls on there actually ARE plus sized. Mia Tyler for one. But Christina? America Ferrera? She hasn't been 'plus sized' since those Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies. Its just a shit list, of beautiful women being harped on for being healthy. I love how the writer starts off by saying that men hate ribs...I've known those men, I am dating one of those men, and am friends with others (including the other person in my life who wants Christina Hendricks :D) and they don't call these women plus sized, fat, whatever.

I think its hilarious, that when a man gets as thin as the highest ranked women out there, the media freaks out and asks what happened. But no one worries about the girls until they look like Rachael Zoe....and even then, you get a quick 'OMG LOOK' and then she's left to starve herself a little bit more.

...you know what? I'm done. Usually rants calm me down, and this is just making me more pissed off. In conclusion: There is a fucking grey area between skeleton and fatty, and its called healthy. And Christina Hendricks is fucking hot. Other than that, I give up.

I'M OUT!!!!

Nazism Thoughts

7 min read

I keep stumbling across Nazi accounts on here, and I always wonder if its meant ironically (which is still not great in my book) or if they really identify with and admire Hitler and his party. So I usually end up skimming through the profiles. And can I just take a moment to say WTF.

Look, I understand that there are people out there who dislike my views, and I dislike theirs. I understand I don't have to look at their posts, and they don't have to look at mine. And I understand that-for the most part-they're not actively attacking other races/religions/nationalities. But something about Nazism still boggles my damn mind.

There's a piece on here, like those demotivational posters, that has a picture of Hitler, and underneath it says HITLER a fallen hero. I'm pretty surprised at DA, for yanking down tastefully done nudes, one the basis that it will be found offensive...but that piece, lifting up a man responsible for so many murders, is left here. And the comments, while containing a couple 'WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU!?' posts, is largly positive! In response to one person, who questioned the validity of calling him a hero with the kind of things he did...there was a comment along the lines of 'That was only one thing, he made many other contributions which were forgotten, history is a pack of lies.'

......
................
..............................

Look. Hitler did some great things (stay with me, its true). He built the autobahn, an exellent and vastly efficient mode of transportation that we have since modeled in almost every nation. He formed groups to assist families, youth organizations to involve children in the betterment of their country, the VW car to give germans and affordable vehicle. He was committed to keeping Germany safe and sufficient. He engendered strong national pride. Germany's economy began to improve under his rule, and employment increased.

But all of that PALES in comparison to the sheer number of innocents who died at his behest. Those youth organizations instilled fear and hatred based on racial/religious grounds. The groups to assist families did nothing to stop the attacks on the Jews/Gypsies/Handicapped/etc. Hitler was a brilliantly intelligent man, a military genius. And he used it for selfish, evil ends. He convinced an vast number of people (I hate to say majority, or an 'entire nation'. Its untrue, and reflects poorly on Germany) that it was for their own safety that they must lock away the Jews in putrid slums, relocate them to camps, etc. He stood up and told the German people he LOVED them, he would stand with them and protect them.

When a nation, so recently ravished by war, depression, and an economic downturn so severe that feeding oneself could be seen as miraculous, has a man stand up and tell them this...its easy to find oneself nodding. He told them these people had the best jobs. Accountants, doctors, bankers. They were stealing from the hard working Germans! Never is it mentioned that these people ARE Germans. They're just JEWISH Germans. And he locks them away and says Look! You are better fed, and better employed! We are safer, and stronger! I told you it was the Jews! I have saved you!

He doesn't explain what he DID to save them. Though I'm sure some people had a suspicion, I'm sure others were just happy to feed their children and themselves. And by then, I think it was pretty clear what happened if you stood against him.

I'm rambling. The point it, while I usually look past these profiles as the inane blatherings of ignorant people, that comments caught me off guard. It was like saying 'This man killed 70 women because he didn't like their hair....but he's not REALLY evil because one time he gave these kids quarters to buy some gum'. Hitler made advancements we can't ignore. But its much harder to try and rationalize calling him a hero for this list of things, knowing that if we somehow, insanely, disregarded ten bodies per contribution he made...we'd still be left with so MANY millions of innocents dead at his hands.

Late Statement.

I know this is delayed, but I'm posting this because Alex has demanded it be saved. So:

"Alexander McQueen wasn't a designer who made dresses for you to wear out. He made dresses for you to exhibit. He was an artist first and foremost, and everything he made, while capable of being worn, was designed to drape on the female form like canvas was meant to wrap around a frame. Women weren't models, they were easels for his art." -Me.

I do truly miss that man, and wish he were still with us to brighten this world with his creations. We needed more fearless, talented, and deeply artistic people with us here on earth.

It has been an eventful week in Jess world. First, I scampered over to the restaurant we're eating at for Leah's birthday. Looks spiffy. tasty sounding drinks, mmhmm. I also worked out the ability to order a spiffily adorable figure next week, and I will update everyone when I have made a sound decision which one of two I'll order. Because I'll be bragging. Like an ass :P Also! My boyfriend and I will be celebrating our three year anniversary on the 10th!!! I can't wait. I also got the cutest pair f shoes yesterday :D Which leads me to the most awesome point of all! I GOT A JOBBBB! I was hired to work as a receptionist, clerk, office bitch creature for an asian foods wholeseller. Woot. I love my supervisor, she's so nice and helpful. And her son is just the cutest little bundle of two year old energy! He owns that office, no matter what his grandpa says. The hours are going to throw me for a loop for a while, I'm up at 5:30am to be to work at 8:00am (I live an hour from the warehouse) and I work til five, and with DC rush hour traffic, I'm home between 630-7. Hopefully I can shorten that down over time, finding little shortcuts :P I am so hopelessly lost in the area right now. Its horrible. Stupid confusing southern maryland. But anyway, thats all for my awful, breathless paragraph. Toodles all.

Wow I suck at updating my journal. Maybe awesome new journalness will help that! Thank you to shftfrm & of course wynnter89! :D :D :D

I feel icky. My throat feels about halfway closed and my nose is all stuffed up. I suck :( I had my friend's munchkin over here today though. He's an awesome little dude :D. He's just discovered his toes and they have quickly become the most fascinating thing in his life hehe. And I'm trying to get back to making jewelry, since I enjoyed it so much. I'm rambling aren't I? Oh well. I wanted to pose a question to whoever reads my journal.

Do you, have you, do you want to, seen anything like a ghost? Do you believe in them? Are you scared of them or intrigued? Okay so that was more than one question. But I'm interested to hear some stories.

With that, goodnight.
